The village of Klima

The village of Klima

Milos is a truly magnificent island, full of surprises and breathtaking colors. In this regard, we would like to give you some information about the fantastic village of Klima, located in the northeast not far from the capital Plaka.

In Klima you will find just over 20 fishermen’s houses with white walls and brightly colored doors, creating a riot of colors that blend with the blue sea, giving it a unique atmosphere.

Klima is very special: its houses are the famous “Syrmatas,” old boathouses with a small room upstairs where fishermen rested between fishing trips, while downstairs they sheltered their boats. Today these houses have been transformed into beautiful accommodations with all the main amenities, where you can spend a vacation in Greece pampered by the sound of the sea, since they are literally right by the waters. You will also find stores offering handmade local products, perfect as souvenirs to make your friends envious.

It is a unique setting, where breathtaking sunsets and hospitable people will welcome you into their homes with a smile, giving you an unforgettable vacation in Milos!

Klima is definitely the most picturesque village on the island of Milos, with its houses flush with water, where every door has a specific color. This has a simple explanation: it was used by fishermen to easily recognize their homes when they returned from fishing. The houses are lined up along the coast, with wooden chutes required to get the boats out to sea. In the background, on the slopes of the hill, is the village of Plaka, with its small houses set among labyrinthine alleys, from which a spectacular view can be enjoyed.

A little history on Klima: The village dates back to 1100 B.C. and was founded after the destruction of the settlement of Fylakopi. Due to its strategic location, Klima flourished between the 7th and 5th centuries B.C., also hosting the main port of Milos. Today many things have changed, and the main port is in Adamas, but Klima still remains one of the main points of interest on the island. Syrmatas still represent a strong village identity.

There are no historical places to visit in Klima, but you can enjoy the natural spectacle offered by the area and indulge in a romantic dinner with the backdrop of a sunset, with your feet almost in the water. We recommend Astakas Tavern, where sometimes you can select fresh fish of the day directly from the kitchen for an unforgettable meal.

Near Klima, you can visit the Ancient Theater of Milos from the Roman era, where the famous statue of Aphrodite was discovered, the Early Christian Catacombs, and take a leisurely walk to Plaka, reaching the Kastro and enjoying a 360-degree view of the inner island.

To reach Klima, there are four options: the easiest is by your own vehicle, following the signs in a northwesterly direction from Adamas. The second option is to take a cab, the third is to take the bus that stops at Trypiti and then walk for about twenty minutes on a dirt, but easy road. Finally, if you love walking, you can walk to it from Adamas in about fifty minutes.

A visit to Klima is an absolute must, perhaps combining it with other interesting places to visit, so be sure to include it on your list of things to do in Milos. You will not regret it!
