Beach of Plathiena

Beach of Plathiena

Plathiena Beach is located on the north coast of the island of Milos, about 2 kilometers from Plaka, the island’s capital. This beautiful beach is composed of sand, has a shallow, crystal clear sea, and is surrounded by rich vegetation. It can be spotted from the huge church located in the center of the capital city. The shallow waters make this beach ideal for families with children to relax and have fun without worry.

The bay in which Plathiena Beach is located provides excellent shelter from northern winds, so it is a perfect place to visit on windy days.

In addition to offering unique and striking natural scenery, Plathiena beach also provides one of the most beautiful sunsets on the island of Milos. After a day of sun, sea and fun, you can stay until evening to admire the sun seemingly dipping into the sea.

In terms of equipment, Plathiena beach is not very well stocked. There is only a small bar where you can get a drink and snack, and some sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent. However, the availability of sunbeds and umbrellas is limited compared to other beaches on the island, so it is advisable to arrive early. If you prefer, you can bring your own beach towel and umbrella to relax in nature while still protecting yourself from the sun.

Getting to Plathiena Beach is very easy. Just follow a well-paved road by car or scooter to Plaka, and then take a less paved but still in good condition small road that will lead you directly to the beach parking lot, which is quite large and free. Alternatively, you can reach Plathiena by boat to enjoy even more magical scenery.

Around Plathiena you will also find some small fishing ports, such as Fourkovouni and Areti, which you can visit if you want to take a break from relaxing on the beach. Take the opportunity to have lunch at one of the local taverns and enjoy some excellent fresh fish.

Finally, a curiosity about Plathiena beach: as you relax on the sand or on the sunbeds, you will notice a rock in the sea in front of the beach. Viewed from the beach, it will look like just a rock, but if you observe it from a boat you may notice that the shape of the rock resembles both a rabbit and a bear. It is truly amazing how nature can create such striking works of art!
